I am working on a very special project and hope to have it completed in the near future. In the meantime I’d like to share with you a portion of what I am creating and encourage you to take part in it as well.

An integral part of my life has so much to do with prompting individual responses from people who like myself, enjoy acting in positive ways. I want to connect with all those who feel they would like to be involved, on a deeper level and in a more profound way, creating a positive impact in the lives of others.

One Beautiful Thing. is an opportunity for each person reading this blog to actually become a positive influence in the lives of others in the world. Perhaps it will be someone at the grocery store, or an acquaintance at your job. Maybe it will be a family member who has not heard from you in some time. Or, a complete stranger who will never learn who you are, but will indeed reap the benefits of your encounter. One Beautiful Thing is an opportunity you can read about and then go into the world and activate in real time. It’s a REAL way for you to make a difference with your thoughts, your love, and your life’s purpose.

I will be blogging each and every Sunday about One Beautiful Thing I have done during the previous week, giving you the opportunity to follow suit. Some of my actions will seem easy for some and more challenging for others. The true level of honesty within oneself and the ability to overcome internal emotional and spiritual baggage will define the ease at which one participates. You will most likely find yourself thinking deeply regarding the tasks at hand and you will often find that courage, love and a power greater than yourself will be necessary in completing that One Beautiful Thing.

When we confront our life instead of running away from it, we begin to understand the real power that resides in us. When we take some of that powerful knowledge and go into the world and lead by example instead of judging, we set into motion a pattern of healing. By reflecting on the side of ourselves that have been through change and challenges alike, we are actually finding new ways to help others along those same paths we once walked.

Each week will signify a new opportunity to produce a positive effect in others and in yourself. With 52 weeks ahead of us we have lots of work to do, so I’d like to take this opportunity to begin right here, right now…

One Beautiful Thing. by Jeremy Mazák

Week 1. November 14th 2010

Given that this is the first in what I hope to be a lifetime of entries, I spent time thinking about the necessity of beginnings. I pondered over the inevitable and unavoidable fact that we are all forced to start over at one point or another. Even if we make it to the end of our lives without actually having to start from scratch, it still looms inevitably in our future that our final exit will in-fact mean a new beginning for both us and those we leave behind.

However, death is not the only occurrence in life that results in us having to reinvent our lives. In my childhood alone I watched my mother marry and divorce twice, my place of residence changed at least half a dozen times, and I was moved 1,200 miles from my family. But it’s not always a negative circumstance that causes us to begin again. I also left my job working at a cemetery to become a licensed hair stylist, and I sold my first home. Both of which were great experiences but did required me to start over each and every time.

All this pondering made me speculate what it would have been like to have someone there for me, someone I could’ve talked to as a child. Perhaps making a difference in my life and forever influencing me in a positive way. We all had great and not so great experiences growing up, but what good are they if we don’t go out and help someone else with what we know? Well, here’s your chance…

This week I contacted In2Books.com and signed up to be a Pen Pal for a child in an underprivileged school. A matched child and I will converse 6 times during the school year as we talk about the situations and circumstances that occur in a book that BOTH OF US are reading together. How wonderful is this! A conversation will develop between us that will offer me an opportunity to teach what I know by explaining my perspectives in life, while offering the child a chance at gaining perspective and experiencing support. Hopefully both of which will serve them their whole life thru.

Think back on your own life and rediscover those moments when you wished support had appeared out of thin air. Try to be in-touch with the desperateness of your cry for help and your real need for solace and reassurance. Offering support by initiating conversation with another person young or old is a genuine way to answer someone’s prayer for help. Emotions are generated and exchanged between both of you, while a lasting impression of positive behavior is made. The result is something that holds authentic value and can actually go with you when you die.

It may be that you would prefer to reach out to an individual who has suffered a loss. Or maybe you will follow my example by signing up to give written support as a pen pal to a child or an adult. However you decide to pledge support please let it be in light of helping someone who has to start out in life or starting over all together. Either way, the simple fact that you have made an effort this week to become a better person by helping someone else… that is definitely One Beautiful Thing.

At the end of our life when we look back and contemplate our previous actions, it will be actions like these that will make us feel proud and accomplished. Live life while making decisions that lead to the least amount of regret and never ever hesitate to act in a positive way towards others, free from judgment and condemnation. Do something beautiful today and feel proud of yourself for the rest of your life.

Post a response to this blog describing what beautiful thing you have done for someone else and inspire other readers to follow your example.
